General Manager, Product Trading
CITGO is a US-based refiner, transporter and marketer of transportation fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals and other industrial products headquartered in Houston, Texas. The company owns three large and complex refineries in the United States and is the 5th largest refiner in the country. The company has over 3,400 employees and also owns and operates terminals, pipelines, and lubricant blending and packing plants. CITGO also has over 4,900 independently owned branded retail outlets across America.
The General Manager (GM) Products Trading coordinates and oversees all trading activities of refined products (gasoline, reformate, diesel and jet fuel). The position is key in leading the effort to advance the commercial maturity of the Products trading organization from a supply focused status quo to an asset-backed trading organization. The individual oversees trading activity, ensures accurate and timely trade details are recorded to ensure accuracy of net exposure and monitors the total trading positions daily for total net exposure and alignment with trading strategies. This person monitors trader P&L performance and evaluates for potential improvements in execution.
The GM Products trading oversees hedging and basis derivatives trading strategies around physical positions. This individual oversees supply and demand balance modeling for refined products in order for the team to not only understand market drivers, but also forecast future balances to highlight potential trading opportunities. The successful candidate ensures the team generates fundamental market forecast, track and predict domestic / international arbitrage opportunities and can translate market insights into tradable actions. The expectations for the GM are to build an employee culture that is supportive of a trading organization and ensure employees are developed to support the organization objectives.
The GM Products Trading purchases, sells, and trades products to balance refinery production with market demand, while achieving the lowest possible supply cost to our Marketing organization, while providing quality assurance, and supply reliability. This individual coordinates product activities in unison with logistics, marketing, pricing, terminals and refining, and also works close with logistics and transportation to provide optimal and reliable transportation options.
The GM works with senior management to establish goals and objectives and plans and directs work of products trading organization, including developing annual Budgets and Medium Term Plans.
The GM Products Trading facilitates communication and teamwork, establishes goals and objectives, and sets performance criteria. This person reviews candidates to fill vacancies, conducts performance reviews, and recommends salary increases and bonus payments. The GM develops processes to explain drivers of Products Trading P&L, GAAP earnings and can explain the variance between each as well as establishes and manages operating budgets and business unit performance objectives.
The GM Products Trading works closely with Compliance to ensure both CITGO and counterparties abide by all current trade restrictions and operate in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and works with Mid Office to ensure trading with within established risk and trading authorities.
